Also known as Deep Restorative Bodywork, Deep Qi Bodywork or DQBW is a style of very gentle body work used in the Yin Style Bagua system of Chinese Medicine. You could think of it as the Chinese Medicine equivalent to Cranial Sacral Therapy or Yin Shiatsu.
What does Deep Restorative Bodywork involve?
Treatment is non-invasive and carried out through clothing. It involves gentle, rhythmic rocking, shaking and holding of the body to realign and reintegrate the skeletal system so Qi can flow freely within the system.
What does Deep Restorative Bodywork feel like?
It is common to experience tangible sensations of Qi flowing within the body - these can manifest as pulsing, waves, shaking, vibrating or radiating heat. Over the course of the treatment these sensations tend to subside and are replaced by a sense of profound stillness. If you have ever practiced Yoga and have reached a deep state of meditation through Yoga Nidra practice it is very similar to this - one yoga teacher called it a 'super-charged Savasana'.
Who is Deep Restorative Bodywork suitable for?
The treatment is a stand-alone treatment i.e. it can be booked as a single, one-off treatment or as part of a course of treatment. It is suitable for everyone but it is most beneficial if you have:
- Chronic fatigue, high levels of stress or adrenal burnout
- Chronic auto immune disease
- Insomnia or hyperactivity
- High level of anxiety, fear or hyper vigilance
What are the benefits of Deep Restorative Bodywork?
- Feelings of calm and stillness which last beyond the treatment
- Stimulation of body’s innate ability to heal itself
- Restoration and rejuvenation for tired or sick bodies
- Improved quality of life for those with chronic illness
How can I book Deep Restorative Bodywork?
Appointments are available with James Thirlwall (Clinic Director) at the clinic in Iffley Village on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Treatment costs £60 for a one hour session.
Testimonials for Deep Restorative Bodywork
Lucy Evans (Actress - Coronation Street)
“My Deep Qi treatment with was like hitting a much needed pause button. I’m always on the go and find it quite hard to completely relax even when I do stop. But this sensation was pure bliss and I really felt every part of me shed any tension. The only problem is I now want to fit this in every week! ”
Rebecca Clarke (Pilates Instructor - London)
“Deep Qi Bodywork was an amazingly relaxing and rejuvenating treatment. James used very light touch and manipulation techniques – almost like an internal massage – that left me feeling relaxed and de-stressed. The treatment started and my centre (tummy) and moved through the sides of my body, ending on my back and head. I left the treatment room feeling a stone lighter, with my shoulders relaxed and my head light. Not only did the treatment restore the balance within my body but also within my mind. Within a couple of hours of the treatment I had finally got my head around finishing a piece of work that I had been putting off for a while – hugely beneficial for body, mind and soul!”
Molly Murphy (Yoga Teacher - London)
“When I went to see James for Deep Qi Bodywork, I was feeling really ‘out of sorts’. The treatment was amazing and turned out to be just what I’d needed! It left me feeling balanced with a profound sense of calm – far deeper than I expected considering the length of treatment. The fully rested feeling I had from my nervous system re-balancing, stayed with me all day and happily, spilled over into my week. The treatment itself is very soothing and totally non-invasive (all done fully clothed, I was super comfortable the whole time). The gentle rocking movements on the body (moving the Qi around my body) allowed my muscles to fully let go and more importantly, once the movement ceased, reminded me how it feels to find true deep stillness. As a yoga teacher I work a lot with a wide range of relaxation tools (restorative yoga, meditation etc.) and am thrilled to add Deep Qi Bodywork to the ‘feel-good’ portfolio!” – Molly Murphy www.MellowMolly.com)
